Marston Book Services
continues the development of its digital printing services through the
installation of the industry’s most versatile and advanced digital
colour press. Xerox’s flagship colour press, the iGEN3, was installed at Marston Book Services digital printing facility at the beginning of the year adding a wider range of colour print services and capacity to the company. The highly sophisticated colour press has exceptional full colour printing capabilities and is able to print onto a wide range of substrates not previously possible on earlier generation digital equipment. In addition to making available to our client base exceptional colour integration for books and journals the press is also able to produce highly personalised ‘one to one’ marketing literature which the company sees as a natural extension of its services to clients. The iGEN3 digital colour press is now in full production alongside our existing high quality black and white digital presses. Our highly trained and qualified personnel are supported by staff in our fully equipped digital bindery featuring perfect binding, case-binding, saddle-stitching, wiro binding, loose-leaf and extensive mailing facilities. All departments are on a double day shift to ensure speed of response. If you would like to find out more about the press or arrange a convenient time to come and see it in operation, please contact us. Marston
Book Services Ltd, fulfilment agent for Blackwell books and journals, have
signed an agreement with the Blackwell publishing company to provide
digital print management for its short print run titles from the UK via
the digital printing business of Marston Lindsay Ross International Ltd
(MLRI). The
acquisition of Lindsay Ross International Ltd in 2001 by Violia Media
Services (holding company for Marston Book Services Ltd and MLRI) has
enabled the enlarged group to offer digital printing and electronic
publishing services to its client publishers, and the wider publishing
community, a service which is in increasing demand by publishers who can
cost effectively increase the life of their backlists by utilising the
vastly improved quality of digital output. Marston
is the first UK fulfilment house to offer digital printing services
integrated alongside its fulfilment business providing a speedy and
seamless process. This service provides a “just before order”
print management service ensuring that customers receive their print on
demand books in the same shipment with other titles they order. John Holloran, group Chairman, said, “the opportunities for publishers have never been better. Not only can they take advantage of our comprehensive fulfilment facilities, but they now have the significant opportunity to add full digital fulfilment facilities too. Digital printing with Marston isn’t simply about putting ink on paper - it is the extension of our supply chain management offering that makes it so attractive.” Managing Director of Marston Lindsay Ross International, Bob O’Shea, comments, “Digital
printing integrated with fulfilment will revolutionise the publishing
industry. The advanced technology now available means that not only do
titles no longer need to go out of print, but a customer can walk into a
bookshop anywhere in the world, request an on demand title and trigger the
manufacturing process within seconds. The commercial benefits to
publishers of such an operation are self evident” The
historic relationship between Marston and Blackwell is well documented;
this new agreement marks a new era in cooperation. |
